Configure dnsmasq on Slackware (base)

1. Goal

Use dnsmasq as a lightweight DNS cache and minimal DHCP server in a lab or small network.

2. Files and components involved

/etc/dnsmasq.conf
/var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases
/usr/sbin/dnsmasq

3. Operational flow

vi /etc/dnsmasq.conf
dnsmasq --test
start dnsmasq with minimal config

4. Operational verification

dig @127.0.0.1 slackware.com
ss -lntup
grep :53
ss -lnup
grep :67

5. Practical notes

Apply network changes from a local console or with an emergency session ready, so you do not lose SSH access.

Every network change should have a rollback path ready: a second console, KVM access, or a temporary command to remove.
