Slackware HowTo

Configure personal GPG keys on Slackware

Generate, export, and verify keys useful for signing and basic encryption.

1. When to use it

Useful when you want to sign releases, files, or emails while keeping a coherent cryptographic identity.

gpg | key generation | fingerprint | export | secret key

2. Base setup

gpg --full-generate-key
gpg --list-secret-keys --keyid-format LONG
gpg --armor --export you@example.com > publickey.asc

Adjust host names, IPs, interfaces, paths, and versions to the real system before making the change persistent.

3. Quick verification

gpg --list-keys
gpg --fingerprint you@example.com
ls -l publickey.asc

Confirm that the output matches the expected state before considering the intervention complete.

4. Operational notes

Keep the private key and revocation certificate offline: they are the real operational insurance of a GPG setup.
